My name is Kelly Hartzel, I am married to my wonderful husband, Mark. We have two boys, Jacob (8) and Drew (5). I am a labor and delivery nurse in high risk obstetrics at Michigan's only hospital exclusively for women, Hutzel Women's Hospital. I completed birth doula training at the Center for the Childbearing Year in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am currently a member of DONA (Doulas of North America) International and Macomb County's birthNETWORK. I recently presented information at the Macomb County Library on the facts regarding Elective Cesareans, Repeat Cesareans, and VBACs.
I decided after the birth of our first son that I wanted to help women in
their journey to motherhood. I did a lot of research and loads of
reading after Jacob was born I
I realized after Jacob's birth that I wanted to help other women learn about birth and support them during labor and after. I believe that there is no right way to birth your baby. Every baby is different and every birth is different. It is your baby and your birth, not mine. My goal is to educate and support, not to tell you what to do. In September of 2002, we found out that we were expecting our second child,
I was able to make more informed choices regarding my birth experience and
Drew's birth went smoothly with only a few interventions. My provider
of care was also very supportive of my choices which helped tremendously.
